St. Lucia’s PM blasts UN member states on Reparation…

St. Lucia’s Prime Minister, Phillip J Pierre used the platform of the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York to vehemently expressed his views on Reparation, Gun Violence, the need for Reform of the global Financial System, and Support for Haiti and Taiwan.

The Prime Minister did not mince his words during his presentation, noting that Small Islands States, including those in the Caribbean, are continually suffering.

“The time has come for the issue of Reparation for the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery in the Western Hemisphere to become a more central part of the global agenda and the work of the United Nations. And not an issue only to be whispered in the corridors and at the margins,” said Pierre.

The issue of Climate Change continues to plague Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and accessing financing, especially commitments on loss and damage finding have proven to be a challenge. It is against that backdrop he called for financial reforms.
