PM reacts to France warning against travel to St Lucia due to crime

During a press conference earlier this week, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre addressed a warning from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to its people not to come to Saint Lucia because of the worsening security situation there.

“The security situation in Saint Lucia is deteriorating, with an increase in homicides and violence, especially in peaceful areas frequented by tourists and expatriates,” the advisory states.

“Shootings and murderous settlements have increased alarmingly since the beginning of the year, particularly in Vieux Fort, Castries, and Gros Islet. Until they are deemed to be safe, no part of the island is now spared from crime,” it continued.
